All Wordly Wise lessons are two weeks long. The following list details the assignments for each night for the two weeks.
We will be learning the words, doing the exercises, and practicing in class. |
What is a Frayer Model?
A Frayer Model is a graphic organizer that is designed to help students gain a deeper understanding of new words. It also helps students to make personal connections between the words and their own lives. Students are asked to provide four things in relation to the words: 1. Definition - can come directly from the Wordly Wise book 2. Characteristics - synonyms or descriptions of the word 3. Examples - specific examples of the word 4. Non-examples - specific "opposites" of the word In the middle of the Frayer Model, students should write the vocabulary word (spelled correctly!) and draw a small sketch to help them visualize the word. For each lesson, we self-assess our knowledge of the new words, and students choose two they do not know well. Those four are the words students should use to complete their Frayer Models. |
